Services

The front desk in the lobby provides:

  • Telephone
  • Lost and found
  • First aid
  • Wheelchairs
  • List of nearby restaurants

Strollers are welcome in the Museum. The Museum does not have strollers for loan.

Baby changing tables are available in all restrooms. Restrooms are located in the lobby, first floor and second floor. Family restrooms are available on the lower level.

Coat racks and lockers are available near the entrance. Lockers cost 50 cents per use.

Food

Vending Machines are located near the All About You gallery on the first floor. You may bring in food and beverages to the vending area. Tables and stools are provided. Please do not take food or beverages into the galleries.

A variety of family-friendly restaurants are within walking distance of the Museum.

Several parks are located within a sort driving distance from the Museum for large groups who would like to eat outdoors during warm weather.

Accessibility

The Museum’s entrance on Ann Street has automatic doors and has no exterior or interior steps.

One handicapped accessible parking space is located in the staff lot in the front of the Museum on Ann Street. It is available first-come, first-served. Other handicapped parking is located at Ann Arbor City Hall at Fifth Avenue and Ann Street.

Wheelchairs are available for loan. Please inquire at the front desk.

The Museum has two elevators. All galleries are accessible by elevator.

Clean and Safe Environment

The Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum wants to provide you and your family with a clean and safe environment for learning and discovery. The Museum has internal cleaning procedures and follows safety guidelines issued by the Center for Disease Control concerning the H1N1 virus (swine flu). Here are some of our cleaning methods:

  • Daily cleaning and sanitization of all restrooms
  • Complete daily draining, changing and treatment of water in water tables
  • Daily sanitization of plastic toys and blocks in the Preschool Gallery
  • Cleaning and disinfecting of all toys and surfaces in the infant area of the Preschool Gallery
  • Weekly laundering of fabric exhibit components
  • Information in restrooms for correct hand washing techniques (see Scrub Club, below)
  • Alcohol-based hand-sanitizer stations in areas that don’t have a convenient water source (plus personal-size bottles available in the gift shop to carry with you)
  • Immediate bio clean-up using a disinfectant
  • Requirement for visitors to remove shoes in the infant area of the Preschool Gallery
