Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum Wins CILC Pinnacle Award and Berrien RESA Teacher’s Choice


FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — AUGUST 10, 2010 — ANN ARBOR, MICH.

For the second year in a row, the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum Distance Learning program was recognized by the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration (CILC) Pinnacle Award. The Berrien Regional Education Service Agency (RESA) also recently awarded “Teachers Choice” the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum Distance Learning program.

“Distance Learning programs brings the magic of the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum’s interactive approach to inspiring the imagination to those who aren’t within driving distance,” said Mel Drumm, Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum executive director. “By making science and math learning engaging and fun, Distance Learning enhances the classroom experience. We are proud of the quality of our programs and honored by our recognition by the CILC and Berrien RESA; Ann Hernandez, our Distance Learning coordinator, is extraordinarily talented at creating programs that inspire the imagination.”

The CILC Pinnacle Award is based on an average of teacher evaluations of the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum’s Distance Learning programs for the 2009 – 2010 school year. The Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum scored an average 2.876 out of 3 possible points to secure the Pinnacle Award. In 2009, the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum received honorable mention.

The Berrien RESA Teacher’s Choice awards is an annual ranking of the best content providers for the school year and recognized the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum as one of the best content providers for the 2009 – 2010 school year. Nearly 400 teachers from the United States and Canada voted on the award.

Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum Distance Learning delivers live, interactive programs developed by the organization’s educators via videoconferencing technology. It offers engaging science and math activities in a dynamic, hands-on learning experience. Program kits are sent to individual classroom teachers and include materials needed for students’ interactive experiments.
