OUTREACH : 50-min. HANDS-ON WORKSHOPS : NEW! Egg Drop Soup

The classic egg drop experiment! Students are given credits to purchase materials to protect their egg from damage in freefall. Concepts in this workshop range from gravity to economics.

Michigan Grade Level Content Expectations, Science v.1.09

  • Identify the force that pulls objects towards the Earth. (P.FM.03.22)
  • Describe what happens when two forces act on an object in the same or opposing directions. (P.FM.05.31)
  • Identify kinetic or potential energy in everyday situations (for example: stretched rubber band, objects in motion, ball on a hill, food energy). (P.EN.06.11)
  • Demonstrate the transformation between potential and kinetic energy in simple mechanical systems (for example: roller coasters, pendulums). (P.EN.06.12)
  • Observe how shape (for example: cone, cylinder, sphere) and mass of an object can affect motion. (P.FM.00.34)
  • Explain how price affects decisions about purchasing goods and services (substitute goods). (ECONOMICS: 4 E1.0.4)
  • Add and subtract whole numbers fluently. (MATH: N.FL.04.08)
