Giant Microbes, Black Death
SKU: 17971
|
Overview
In October, 1347, the Black Death (then called the "pestilence") arrived in the city of Messina in Sicily. By 1352, 25 million people -- or a third of Europe's population -- were dead...
There have been numerous outbreaks of the Black Death in Europe and Asia, before and after the 1300s. It was during a wave of plague in 1894 in Asia that a Swiss-French bacteriologist named Alexadre Yersin discovered that the Yersina pestis bacterium was the devil behind it all.
GIANTmicrobes® are stuffed animals that look like tiny microbes — only a million times actual size! They're humorous, educational, and fun! Each GIANTmicrobes® comes with an image and information about the real microbe it represents. They make great learning tools, as well as amusing gifts for anyone with a sense of humor. Collect them all!
