Looking for opportunities to dive in and get messy with science? Volunteer with the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum! We are looking for committed, enthusiastic volunteers of all ages to help us with our summer programs. As a volunteer, you will get the chance to create moments of discovery and wonder for visitors of all ages. You will learn and teach STEM topics, plus become part of a great museum team. No prior knowledge or experience is needed; you provide the enthusiasm, and we’ll provide the training.
Our programs will all fall under our Summer of Space theme. In June, we’ll Fly into Summer with activities all about the physics of flight. July will be a Race to the Moon as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing and learn all about human space travel and our solar system. In August, we will go beyond our solar system and imagine Strange Worlds and Stranger Creatures, while learning about biology and atmospheric science. Please see the events page and calendar on our website for a full listing of our events and programs.
The Museum has numerous flexible volunteer possibilities for individuals age 14 and over:
- Docent: Learn and play alongside visitors
- Activities Faciliator: Run hands-on activities for programs, such as weekend ScienceFest Events, Members’ Nights, and school break activities.
- Activity Facilitator Lead: Train Activity Facilitators on event procedures, and work alongside Activity Facilitators to lead activities, answer questions, and maintain the activity space.
- Have an idea you don't see here? Contact the Volunteer Manager using our Contact Us Form.
We want your group to volunteer at the Museum! Community service clubs, Scout troops, employee groups, or any other group can choose to come in for a day or on a recurring basis. Project possibilities are endless and tailored to best fit your group, whether that is hands-on activities, behind-the-scenes work, running an event, or a project of your own design.
