Update June 24, 2021
Message from our President & CEO:
This past year has been a difficult one for everyone. At the Museum, it has the been the most challenging year we have ever faced. With disrupted operations from March 2020 to May 2021, which has resulted in a 60% reduction in staff and the suspension of most programming, it has been a nightmare year. While the museum remained closed, we chose to offer hundreds of free and low-cost programs through both our virtual classroom and outdoors at the Leslie Science & Nature Center.
Thanks to so many of you, we are still here. Throughout the pandemic, we have listened to the science, and to you.
As we began to reopen, we started with pre-reserved groups, and later, opened to members and visitors following a strict mask requirement. As the COVID situation improved, we continued to follow State, County, and CDC guidelines and required masks for unvaccinated visitors. We also began to welcome vaccinated visitors without a mask. All along, our staff has encouraged masking and has constantly reminded families to mask our youngest guests. And now, our staff members are spending a significant amount of their time trying to regulate mask-wearing, and while doing so, are observing that a rapidly growing number of visitors are expressing frustration about masks.
With the removal of mask requirements by the State, we will once again realign our mask requirements for Museum visitors to follow current State guidelines. For guests wishing to wear masks but arriving without them, masks will be available at our front desk. We will continue to offer private reservation times, where you may select who is with you and self-select your own mask policy. For guests seeking a more controlled environment, we are prepared to offer mask-only days as well.
This is your Museum and is one designed to be a welcoming community learning and gathering space for everyone. As we have done throughout the pandemic, we will follow the science by aligning with State, Local, and CDC guidelines. We promise to extend every courtesy possible in support of every visitor, too.
We are listening. We are flexible. We are here for you.
If you have feedback you wish to share, or have an interest in masks-only days, please let us hear from you. To help facilitate your valued feedback, we have created a short survey. Click here.
Thank you for your unwavering support of the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum and the Leslie Science & Nature Center. We look forward to welcoming you and your family soon.
